MEET JIM.

A dedicated voice for Des Moines + Lee Counties.

Jim Beres is a life-long Iowan and has been living in Burlington for the past 21 years. He graduated from Valparaiso University and then went to the University of Iowa Law School. He then went on to be the Hardin County Attorney for 13 years and is now a retired public defender. He is active in the Unity Lutheran Church in Burlington. He also manages to stay plenty busy in his retirement as a member of the Players Workshop Theatre, Bel Canto Chorale and Bike Burlington Cycling Club. Beres lives with his partner, Darren, in Burlington.

“This state is not the same state that I grew up in. Our government has become way too extreme for Iowans, and all balance has been thrown out the window. It is time to restore that balance. That is why I have decided to run for office, to advocate for true Iowa values at the state house. I am going to advocate for individual liberties and the right for families to make their own healthcare decisions. I will be a fierce advocate for strong public schools, and adequate funding for our essential social services. Burlington deserves a representative who sticks up for their community, and stands up to the status quo to get things done. I intend to do that when I get to the state house in 2024.”

Jim brings a wealth of experience and a strong dedication to public service to this campaign. Jim is dedicated to the work, and his candidacy will be one step toward making Iowa a more inclusive and supportive place for all families. Jim looks forward to engaging with his community, listening to concerns, and working together to shape a bright future for Burlington.
